Trump “very unhappy” with Israeli strikes in Qatar

US President Donald Trump said he was “very unhappy” with the operation, which he claimed he was briefly informed about before it took place.

He said he was surprised by an attack carried out on territory he considers an ally.

The unprecedented operation in Doha, Qatar, a key mediator in Gaza ceasefire talks, took place as negotiators considered a recent truce proposal backed by Donald Trump, according to CNN.

Six people were killed, including a Qatari security guard, but Hamas leadership claimed to have survived the attack.

Although Israel thought it had hit its targets, Hamas claimed that the strike had failed to eliminate its members in charge of the ceasefire talks. Among them was one of the main targets of the forward: Hamas chief negotiator Khalil Al-Hayya.

Donald Trump reacted to the surprise attack in Qatar by saying he was “not thrilled about the whole situation” and felt “very unhappy about every aspect”. This statement comes as Qatar has described the Israeli offensive as a “violation” of international law.

Donald Trump has already been in the news for his close relationship with Qatar, notably when he agreed to receive a Boeing 747-8 initially valued at around $400 million, offered as a gift, an operation deemed highly controversial.

He planned to use the plane as Air Force One until the end of his mandate, before transferring it to his presidential foundation or library.
