A Progressive car insurance customer tried to pay her bill online and got a shocking surprise. She discovered someone had filed a fake claim.

Todjei (@todjei), a content creator, shared a video regarding her experience with Progressive, which now has more than 64,700 views.

According to her account, the ordeal began when she went to make a payment on her Progressive insurance policy. That's when she noticed a claim associated with her brand-new 2025 vehicle. This was surprising, as she knew she hadn't been in an accident.

Todjei contacted Progressive. A representative allegedly told her that the claim was filed under her own account. According to the information she received, the supposed accident involved her hitting a pedestrian on Mother's Day.

There was just one problem. She says she knew exactly where she had been that day and she hadn't been driving anywhere.

The proof

Todjei explained that she had been home. She offered to provide snapshots of her vehicle from that day to prove where she was. She was particularly baffled by the circumstances surrounding the alleged accident. There was no police report provided as evidence.

Eventually, Progressive closed the claim. But the experience left her convinced that someone had gained access to her personal information and was using it to make fraudulent claims.

That's when she says she asked Progressive for a new policy number to prevent further fraud. According to Todjei, a representative told her that wasn't possible.

Separately, Todjei asked whether she could add additional security measures to her account, but a representative allegedly told her that wasn't possible either.

Online, Progressive says that customer information is protected through physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards. Two-step verification is mandatory for Progressive account logins, requiring a temporary code sent by text or email in addition to a user ID and password.

Todjei, however, said “ Progressive don't verify nothing but your phone number, which is [expletive] near public, and your email address, which anybody can get ahold of.  They don't ask you no type of security questions.”

The second claim

Rather than simply waiting for another incident, she said she took matters into her own hands and placed security measures on her credit.

The following month, she checked her Progressive account again and discovered another claim.

The second claim allegedly contained eerily similar details to the first. This time the fraudulent claimant reported that she had backed into a pedestrian.

For Todjei, the second incident was the point when her frustration turned into outrage.

She questioned how another claim could have been opened under her policy after she had already alerted Progressive to what she believed was identity theft.

What made the situation even more concerning?

According to Todjei, the alleged fraudster had also changed the contact information associated with the claim to their own information.

That detail was particularly troubling: If she didn't independently check her policy, she may never have known about the second claim.

Instead of Progressive contacting her about the alleged accident, she claimed the company communicated with the person who had allegedly filed it.

Will Todjei continue to be a Progressive customer?

After discovering the second claim, Todjei realized she could no longer keep Progressive as her insurance carrier.

For her, the issue was no longer simply about a fraudulent claim. It was about whether she could trust the company with her insurance policy and personal information. For that reason, she said she had no intention of continuing to pay for insurance with a company she believed had failed her.
