Woman Has Been Loyal Subaru Driver For Years. Then She Sees The New Subaru: ‘Saves All My Data’

Eilish Kyle (@eilishkyle) says her 2024 Subaru Outback will be her last. In a parking lot, she filmed what plays like a eulogy for the wagon model she's driven for decades.
The story
The 13-second clip cuts from a white 2026 Outback—taller, boxier, blocky where the old car had a slope—to Kyle's green 2024 model. Her overlay reads: “When a decades long Outback owner realizes her 2024 will be her last bc they really did ruin it.”
Her caption is addressed to the company. “Dear @Subaru of America, Inc. literally all we asked was for you to move the climate control off of the touchscreen to physical buttons,” she writes. “I'll never forgive you for turning my beloved wagon into the ugliest version of every other suv on the road.”
The peanut gallery
In her comment section, many viewers said they knew why the content creator made her post.
“Okay, real talk, I had zero clue that Ford Explorer was an Outback until the 3rd watch,” joked one person. Another person quipped that the new model “looks like an Otterbox.” The model's militaristic look led one person to say, “it looks like it supports ICE.”
One person said there were broader shifts to “ugly” aesthetics. “How we have allowed every car to be slowly turn into an SUV or ugly crossover is beyond me,” they added. “We don't need bigger, uglier vehicles.”

The wagon is gone
The seventh-generation Outback ditched its lifted-wagon silhouette for a boxier, split-headlight crossover shape, and the specialty press has been landing hard on the change. The Autopian's Thomas Hundal Consumer Reports was cooler but landed in the same place, noting that for fans of station wagons, “the loss of the old Outback might sting, as it was the only non-luxury wagon still on sale in the U.S.”
Sales for the new model aren't looking great, though; to be fair, the economy isn't great, and the car market has been Subaru Outback Forums, one longtime owner was less charitable: the new model, he wrote, “resembles an Ascent without the third-row seat.”
