The Pope’s first words: “Peace be with you”

The man who went from cardinal to pope by being chosen by his peers had some comforting words for everyone massed in St. Peter’s Square, as well as for the whole planet.

“Peace be with all of you”, he began, words that echoed those of Christ and delighted the millions watching the event around the world.

The man whose real name is Robert Prevost, a native of Chicago, Illinois, in the USA, appeared to be very humble throughout his first peech.

He even seemed quite emotional at times, creating a superb bond with the assembled faithful, who returned the favor with heartfelt slogans and cheers.

A successful debut, then, for the man who was not only appointed cardinal by his predecessor, Pope Francis, but who seems chosen to continue the latter’s work, which is one of progressivism and openness.
