With the advent of mainstream artificial intelligence, we’ve all said to ourselves one day that our job will soon be replaced by an AI. While some occupations involving repetitive tasks are well and truly under threat, there are several that are not likely to disappear any time soon. These include jobs that require a case-by-case approach, as well as others that require direct human intervention or decision-making. There are also jobs that are directly related to AI, and which AI cannot do without. Here’s a list of 15 jobs that will stand up to Artificial Intelligence.
Doctor and nurse
Healthcare jobs top the list of those that will remain dedicated to humans. AI can’t even give a simple injection, which any nurse can do. Of course, it can help doctors with their diagnoses, but when it comes to making decisions during treatment, that’s another matter altogether.
Head chef
If the most prestigious restaurants are so expensive, it’s because the menu is totally different from the frozen food coming out of factories. Top chefs are constantly reinventing and refining traditional recipes to surprise their clientele. What’s more, there’s always a need for someone to taste these dishes before they go on sale.
Lawyer
Artificial intelligence can easily scan the various laws to determine whether or not an offence has been committed, but it can’t interpret them according to the situation, as a lawyer would. An AI program will have a hard time focusing on the details that will benefit the client in court.
Artificial intelligence engineer
What better way to survive AI than to work in AI? After all, AI will always need to be improved. The AI engineer will be in charge of designing and maintaining these systems, without which they simply won’t work. Rest assured, we’re still a long way from science-fiction scenarios where AI can design itself.
Artisan
Handcrafted products are special simply because they are handmade, so each item is unique. This is in complete contrast to the principles of algorithms, where every task is similar. These handicrafts are not limited to souvenir or jewelry makers, but also to other activities such as plumbing or hairdressing.
Investigative journalist
The job of an investigative journalist requires a strong analytical mind and the ability to adapt to all circumstances as the investigation progresses in the field. They must know how to cross-check and interpret the information they obtain. Above all, they must be able to uncover new information, whereas AIs rely on existing facts.
Programmers
While many developers have been impacted by generative AI, programmers are paradoxically more essential than ever, especially those involved in AI systems. You can automate the creation of basic applications, but by no means large-scale models, at least not yet in the years to come.
Athlete
The popularity of professional sport is largely due to the fact that we watch athletes practicing their craft as entertainment. You’ll probably never be able to enjoy a soccer match or swimming event with robots as athletes or computer simulations (in this case, it’s called a video game).
Teachers and trainers
Teachers have to do everything they can to ensure that their teaching reaches students perfectly. While relying on technology to enrich their courses, they need to have a particular approach to each student to maximize results for each. This also applies to professional trainers and human development coaches.
Social worker
If you ask social workers for help, it means you’re going through a difficult situation. Therefore, you need attention and empathy. The last thing you want to deal with in this situation is a machine telling you what to do. In this business, there’s no substitute for human understanding.
Diplomat
The diplomat’s main mission is to represent his or her country away from home. They must be able to adapt to different cultures and environments, while keeping the interests of their people in mind. This task cannot be entrusted to a computer program which, among other things, is likely to have been designed by foreigners.
Artist
As with sport, art falls into the entertainment category. Even if you can find AIs who can compose music, they can’t get up on stage. The same applies to painting, sculpture and cinema, where all works reflect the artist’s philosophy and feelings.
Energy specialist
To run an AI, you need energy. And it will simply shut down as soon as the power supply is cut off. In the event of a power cut, someone will have to intervene and restart it. It’s hard to see how an H/S mechanism could restart its power supply or install a backup power source.
Tourist guide
As soon as you hire a tour guide, your fate is in their hands. Imagine visiting a vast rainforest with only a small robot as your guide, only to have it suddenly break down: hello trouble! The guide can also help you appreciate the places you visit with a touch of feeling.
