Georgia bartender serves man. Then he realizes he’s wearing glasses. Then he realizes that’s a big problem
A Georgia bartender has issued a warning about men who frequent his bar. Watch out for individuals wearing glasses, he said, because they might record you in your worst state and call you out for it on the internet.
TikTok content creator MilliMik (@livemillimik) shamed creators who use Meta glasses' recording technology without the other person's consent in a video with over 360,000 views. Then, commenters revealed who the “piece of [expletive]” was that made it their personal mission to record inebriated women in public settings. While it's legal to create content using the glasses in one-party states without consent, like Georgia, more and more people are uncomfortable with the growing number of TikTok content creators who feel comfortable making it.
Who Was The Georgia Bartender Talking About in His Video?
A few commenters thought that MilliMik was referring to a specific person when he made his call-out. In his TikTok, he stated that “ if you ever feel like a piece of [expletive]… just remember there's a group of guys that walk around with Meta glasses…recording people. Preferably girls. Mostly girls actually. It's really all girls just drunk throwing up… basically just in a bad state.”
Some commenters made an attempt to fill in the blanks. They mentioned a TikTok content creator named Dassocari (@
dassocari) who makes Meta glasses-based content in Georgia. The content creator has made multiple different videos interviewing women with the glasses at night, although it's unclear if he ever specifically stopped at the place where MilliMik works or met the other creator.
Commenters mentioned that Dassocari attempted to follow them and even worked with them, but they didn't necessarily point out anything specific that would tie his account to MilliMik's video.
Others reflected on people in their personal lives who fit MilliMik's description. “My ex records girls from behind without their permission and sends them to his friends and shows people in bars,” one person said. It's not just TikTokers who are recording people in bars. It's also something that everyday people are doing to watch and survey women those trying to have a nice night out.
Meta Glasses: Legal World vs. Moral World
MilliMik pointed out that the men who record women in Georgia technically have a legal right to do so. But he made it very clear that he didn't agree with the practice.
He is right that it's legal to record others without their consent in Georgia, as it's a one-party state. For most areas of the country, recording someone without their consent is technically legal. There are only 12 states that require two-party consent from each individual involved in a recording. States also don't differentiate between Meta glasses and other recording devices, meaning that most laws that apply to recordings on cellphones apply to the devices.
There are entire TikTok empires with massive followings that secretly record and interview people on the street, often without their knowledge. But many of these recordings also happen in public places, where individuals have no reasonable expectation of privacy. As long as the person recording is in the conversation and is located in a one-party state, it's legal.
Since more and more people are noticing it in public spaces, they've been wary. MilliMik is issuing a warning for women and others going out: Be careful, because other people don't have to be.
