It's no secret that times are tough. As a result, people are flocking in droves to pick up new side hustles or jumpstart new careers altogether. More and more people are becoming content creators and/or working multiple jobs.

Some people are trying out vocations in night life, as well—bartending, club promoting, performing, the works. And they appear to be raking in a significant amount of cash.

‘Tonight was a good night'

In a video first posted recently that has since accumulated nearly 50,000 views, Daisy Delacroix (@daisydelacroix on TikTok) shared her first vlog as a dancer in Las Vegas. At the time of recording Delacroix was three weeks into her new occupation.

Delacroix invited her viewers to join her in seeing how much money she made in one night at her 24-hour club.

“OK so tonight was a good night,” Delacroix said after her shift while munching on some chicken tenders. “It's about 3:24 in the morning … this is my first night vlogging in Vegas as a midnight ballerina.”

When Delacroix said “midnight ballerina,” she used a slang term. The lingo was popularized on platforms like TikTok to circumvent censorship mechanisms that tend to suppress “inappropriate” content.

Delacroix began calculating her earnings and counting bills on camera.

After painstakingly thumbing through the bills, Delacroix arrived at a final number.

“I made about $3,050,” Delacroix concluded. “Kind of a slow night, but it's not bad. I was here from 10 p.m. to 3:30 [a.m.], but I didn't do dances at all after like three hours. And then I got lucky with one VIP, so we'll call it a good night.”

$3,050 in a single five-and-a-half hour-shift means that Delacroix was paid more than $550 per hour. Based on that figure, it's reasonable to say Delacroix had a good night.

How much do dancers make?

If Delacroix managed to rake in thousands of dollars during one “slow” shift, one must wonder what a busier shift might yield. So how much can “midnight ballerinas” generally expect to make?

Unfortunately, the answer tends to shift. Like many tip-based occupations, workers can't necessarily expect or rely on any kind of fixed income. Moreover, how much customers tip can depend on a multitude of factors outside these workers' control, such as the average income in a given area, or even the state of the economy.

However, many exotic dancers have gone online to share their anecdotal experiences with pay, and some data also exists. One Redditor posted in r/AskReddit, asking such dancers how much they make. The post received some illuminating answers.

“It's very up and down but overall the best money I've ever made by far,” commented one self-identified dancer who had been working for six months. “I don't have a schedule, and sometimes I'll go in for 2 hours and make $400. But … one time I actually cried because I had a horrible night, only made something like $20 and then I went over what I'd made that week. I'd worked 3 days and made $600 total. And I laughed at myself because that's twice what I made in a week at any previous job I had. It's pretty decent money.”

“Former stripper checking in,” wrote another commenter. “I made enough money to open up my own successful business … My savings account used to sit comfortably in 5 figures at the age of 19. Day shift I'd average $200 for a quick 4 or 5 hour shift. Week nights varied widely $150-$300 average? Weekends $200-$450 average. Most I ever made in a night was $1,200 after tip out and house fees. (~$1,800 before tip out and house fees).”

A male dancer also chimed in, saying he would make between $500 to $1,000 on a very busy weekend. One Las Vegas dancer, according to Thrillist, raked in about $300,000 per year. Meanwhile, sites like Payscale estimate the hourly pay to sit at around $28 to $30.
