The tomato has become such an essential part of so many world food traditions (just think of pizza and pasta!), especially in Italy and in Spain. But have you ever thought how strange it would have seemed when it was first brought over the Atlantic to Europe, a product of the Americas that no one knew what to make of? So strange, in fact, that some Europeans thought they might be poisonous! How are tomatoes so loved by so many people in the world today if they were once rejected and feared as a lethal food?
