On September 15, Starbucks launched its Peanuts collaboration to kick off the early fall season and celebrate the franchise's 60th anniversary. For a limited time, fans can collect 10 different Peanuts-inspired drinkware and accessories.

But one particular item is drawing massive crowds: The Snoopy glass cold cup. Priced at $39.95, the 20-ounce cup features the iconic Snoopy sitting adorned in a green scarf and orange hat with a Woodstock straw topper. With that, there are people who are willing to do whatever it takes to get their hands on it, as one Texas woman witnessed firsthand at her Starbucks.

What Happened At This Starbucks?

While standing in line, Starbucks customer Lina (@c.arolinag) films a woman standing over the register, wrestling with a barista. She and the barista pull back and forth, as the woman struggles to grab a specific item.

Then, she bumps into a stand full of gift cards, and it scatters onto the floor. Eventually, she successfully snatches what she wanted: The Snoopy cup. Angry, she swipes her phone and storms away with both items in tow, leaving the mess she created behind her.

According to the text overlay, this was “all for a Snoopy cup.”

In a now-removed follow-up video, Lina clarified in the caption, “All because they were refusing service since she cut [in front] of everyone.”

‘Adults Here Fighting Over A Cup'

Lina's clip amassed 9.5 million views, and everyone in the comments section was collectively appalled by the woman's behavior.

“Adults here lol fighting over a cup,” one viewer commented.

“All this over a cup. I love Snoopy and I collect snoopy things but I knew it was best for me not to even try to get one cause of people like that. So sad to see an adult act that way,” a second echoed.

“Genuinely wtf is wrong with people….wait ur turn. It's never that serious,” a third remarked.

“Why do people act like this? It's so ridiculous,” a fourth stated.

Even a fifth noted, “Mind you, I'm gonna see this exact cup at the thrift store next month.”

What Fuels This Behavior?

At some point in our lives, we have stumbled across limited-edition or seasonal merchandise, whether it's in-store or online. Even if you're not usually interested, you may feel the need to buy it. Perhaps you feel this urge because you don't want to miss the opportunity. If you've ever felt this way, it's not in your head. In fact, this is all by design, a marketing tactic called Scarcity Marketing.

Now, why would a company or brand stir FOMO (fear of missing out) within us? It's simple, really. When an item is available for a short time, it catches people's attention, which in turn increases its perceived value and revenue, according to Mercury News. Sometimes, a company or brand manufactures scarcity to boost sales.

Take the Starbucks Bearista cup as an example. The 20-oz tumbler was released around the holidays (one of the busiest times of the year) and marketed as a limited-edition product, fueling people's deep-seated need to have a product before it's gone. As a result, it became Starbucks' biggest single-day sales performance and boosted momentum for Red Cup Day, which saw a 6.2% boost in foot traffic, per Newsweek

In the same vein, resellers use and exploit this method to their advantage by purchasing these products to turn a profit. Some resellers listed the Bearista for hundreds and even over $1,000 a pop. Now, the Snoopy cup is facing the same fate, with resale listings hitting $200.
