Florida man buys case of Alani from Walmart. But the case doesn’t ring up: ‘I got you’

Spooky season is approaching, which means the release and return of Halloween-themed products. For Alani drinkers, it's the time of year when the beloved Witch's Brew has people flocking to stores and stocking up for the season. 

Since these limited-edition energy drinks fly off the shelves relatively fast, spotting individual cans is lucky, let alone a full case. And at a discounted price? Well, this should be a win.

One Florida man proudly posted online about hitting the jackpot at Walmart. According to him, an employee secured him a good deal on a case of Alani because of a technical error. As of this writing, his video has more than 42,000 views.

How did he win big at Walmart?

“So, I'm at Walmart, and I find a case of the Witch's Brew,” Florida TikTok creator Dillon (@dillondaima) says in his video, referring to the giant case of the Alani flavor on his passenger seat. “They were selling the singles for $2.98 each.” Instead of grabbing them one by one, he decided to take the entire case to self-checkout. When he tried to scan all the barcodes on the case, he says they wouldn't ring up. Fortunately, a Walmart employee intervened and saved the day. “I got you. I'll help you out,” the content creator recalls the employee saying.

Then, Dillon watched as the employee worked his magic. “He types in ‘Alani,' puts it in as a grocery product, and pulls it up to enter a price. My man's put $5,” he says, revealing the $5 charge for the Alani on the receipt as proof. “Like, I just got a whole 12-pack of these for five [expletive] dollars.”

‘Someone just got fired'

Normally, viewers collectively cheer for a worker giving a huge discount. But many viewers were more concerned about the consequences for the associate. They believed Dillon's Alani deal would make the employee lose their job.

“Someone just got fired from Walmart,” one viewer remarked.

“You put the location of the Walmart and everything. That guy is probably fired,” a second echoed.

“Because it's not sold as a case in Walmart. So someone is gonna get fired,” a third concurred.

However, those who defended the content creator applauded him for getting a discount.

“It's the little blessings that matter,” one commenter said.

“How does it feel to be God's Favorite? Happy for you man,” another stated.

Does Walmart sell Alani by the case?

Indeed, they actually do. When searching the Palm Coast location's website, the results showed four case options for pickup and delivery: the Minis, a Potion Pack, and two different 12-packs. A case of Witch's Brew Alani, which Dillon snagged, varies in price depending on the location. On Alani's website, a 12-pack costs $29.99.

So, why didn't the scanner read the barcode? Well, several things could have happened. Walmart sells individual Alani energy drinks in the beverage aisle and in coolers by the checkout stands for customers to buy. The price Dillon received may have been a price for a single can. It also could have even been a unique price related to restocking.

On the other hand, self-checkout machines aren't foolproof and can glitch. If the case was up for grabs, the system may not have been able to read it due to damage or poor printing, per Cloudpick's blog. When this happens, the best course of action is to flag an employee to attempt to solve the problem. An employee can search for the correct price on their handheld device.
