As a whole, people laud any person who carries a child, both for the exhausting and mind-grueling effort it takes to experience and for the safety concerns involved. But what happens when a pregnant woman just takes something as a result of a craving? Should others move to the side?

Rylee (@rdancergirl) posted a video that received more than 2.9 million views. In it, she filmed a pregnant woman who allegedly came to her Cheesecake Factory table for bread.

The content creator said, “POV: this random pregnant lady just starts taking bread from your table,” in the on-screen text.

In her caption, she added, “Can't really say no to a pregnant woman.”

Little did Rylee know that the situation, which appears to be filmed in jest and not meant for serious debate, would cause a heated exchange in her comments section.

‘I Would Happily Share'

Viewers argued endlessly whether the interaction—a pregnant woman taking bread from another table—was appropriate. Many commenters said the woman should have stayed at her own table. Notably, Cheesecake Factory offers complimentary bread portions. The restaurant chain also sells entire loaves to customers upon request.

“Absolutely not. Idc if she's pregnant or not, get your own bread,” a viewer said.

Another added, “My anger issues could never.”

Others, however, said it's rude not to offer the woman the bread for the very same reason, citing the company offering complimentary bread.

“Y'all are so unfun if a pregnant lady came to my table asking for the FREE BREAD, she can have it lmao it's not the end of the world, cs if I want more (which cheesecake bread is nasty) I can simply ask for more,” a viewer added.

“Y'all are so weird in the comments my Iraqi mom would've made room for her at the table and ordered her a meal,” another commenter said.

The Science Behind Pregnancy Cravings

Outside of the general debate on the woman's behavior, others cited a probable culprit for the woman grabbing the bread in the first place—pregnancy cravings.

Northwestern Medicine says that “pregnancy hormones — mainly human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG), progesterone and estrogen — can heighten your sense of smell and taste, creating both cravings and aversions.”

Ignoring a pregnancy craving can be incredibly difficult, at least for some women. Online, soon-to-be parents say that it can be challenging to ward off wants and desires for certain foods.

“When I crave something, it has lasted for days to even weeks. I try to avoid it or make healthier alternatives to please the child, but it doesn't work. It's so specific to a T as well,” one person who posted on r/pregnant said.

A craving can theoretically impact a pregnant person to such a degree that they might do something unusual. For instance, go up to another table and take additional Cheesecake Factory bread. Whether that's truly ethical is still up for debate.
