Humans have been wondering at the various views and happenings of nature since the dawn of time. To this day, our species uses natural phenomena as fuel for our imaginations and stories.
Some of these phenomena, such as northern lights, have literal millennia of mystique attached to them. But what happens when an ordinary, modern-day layperson sees something that seems to defy reality, and then posts it on TikTok?
‘There's no more denying it'
TikTok creator Codeddragon (@trinity_unlocked) posted a video of her view of the Louisville, Kentucky, sky from her car. The video, which appears to show two suns in the sky, has more than 750,000 views.
“Two [expletive] suns,” Codeddragon shouted, indicating in her caption that she was “excited.” “I've been trying to catch these [expletive] forever! Look at this [expletive]! Can't make this [expletive] up, cuz!”
In Codeddragon's video, the actual sun appears to be hanging low in the sky, directly under a canopy of thick clouds. Directly above it, inside said canopy, a fainter doppelgänger of the sun looks like it's peeking through the clouds.
“There's no more denying it!” Codeddragon said. “[I have] it on [expletive] footage … in real time … This is Louisville [expletive] Kentucky … Two [expletive] suns in the [expletive] sky.”
How did viewers respond?
Codeddragon's viewers seemed to echo her excitement over the phenomenon, with many of them sharing their own pictures of double suns, double moons and even triple suns. While some comments referenced conspiracy theories of “sun simulators,” others shared scientific explanations of “sunlight refracting through high-altitude ice crystals.”
Codeddragon, for her part, liked multiple comments alluding to “simulations,” upside-down moons and government cover-ups. She responded “EXACTLY” to one commenter who claimed that this is why the powers that be “cover the skies so heavily before sunset and sunrise.”
In response to one viewer who said that “Google could've easily told” Codeddragon what's going on scientifically, she said with a laughing emoji, “Lmaoo u trust what google says in 2026?”

Why does it look like there are two suns in the sky?
While planets with two suns have long dominated people's collective imagination, with the “Star Wars” planet Tatooine being a notable example, Earth has only one sun. A habitable planet with two suns is theoretically possible, but it would likely be unstable due to extreme temperatures.
So why did Codeddragon see two suns in the sky?
It appears Codeddragon was witnessing a somewhat rare but previously documented “effect of optical refraction” that is actually a kind of mirage, according to NBC News.
“Mirages appear when particles in the atmosphere refract, or bend, light,” NBC News reported in 2011. “This typically happens near the horizon, where air is thicker, though, and mirages are usually aligned vertically above or below the original source of the light.”
The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) explains on its website that these double-sun mirages are colloquially referred to as “sundogs.” Meteorologists often call them “parhelia.”
“Sundogs are a rather common atmospheric phenomenon caused by refraction of sunlight by ice crystals in the Earth's atmosphere,” NRAO says. “Sundogs typically are observed on either side of the Sun at horizontal distances of about 22 degrees and at about the same elevation above the horizon as the Sun.”
