Man Goes To American Airlines Counter. Then He Sees A Flight From Miami To Lima For $38: ‘She Wasn’t Lying’

With flights becoming increasingly more expensive over the last year, many American travelers are on the hunt for a good deal.
According to TikTok creator @travelforless, there's a platform that helps you find unbelievable discounts. He says he found out it exists because of an American Airlines passenger.
Which Platform Lets You Fly Cheaply Around the World?
In the clip, which has garnered over 14,000 views, the creator first films the passenger who purportedly gave him the tip. Then he films two screens in front of him to show the flight prices.
“So she wasn't lying,” he wrote in the video's text overlay. “This is where airlines post unsold seats for dirt cheap.”
The first example he shows is a flight from Miami to Lima, Peru, for just $38, operated by Avianca.
The second screen shows the homepage of Triips.com, which features trips such as Seattle to Tokyo for $295, London to Venice for £19, New York to Dublin for $191, and more.
“I'm on this website, triips.com,” he says in the video. “My man, look at these deals. How the heck is this even possible?”
The video is clearly an ad, similar to the other posts on the creator's account.
In one video, for example, a guy who had visited 37 countries in two years supposedly showed him the website. In another, it was a flight attendant.
Additionally, the Miami-to-Lima flight he shows is a screenshot. He isn't showing viewers a current flight available at that price.
How Does Triips.com Work? Is It Worth It?
Triips is a subscription-based flight-deal alert service. Airlines don't “post unsold flights” on there; it tracks airfare and sends members alerts when it finds unusually cheap fares or significant price drops from their chosen departure airport.
The service costs $59 per year, though it allows you to try it for free for 7 days.
It's important to note that Triips isn't a travel agency and doesn't actually allow you to book flights through it. When users click on a deal, Triips redirects them to Skyscanner, where they can view live pricing and complete the booking with the airline or booking provider.
Anyone who wants to use the service would also have to be fairly spontaneous. The platform doesn't let users search for deals to a specific destination or specific dates. It periodically shows them deals departing from their selected airport.
Some similar services include Going, Dollar Flight Club, Thrifty Traveler, and more.
What Do Triips Users Think?
Reviews of Triips are mixed.
On Trustpilot, one customer praised both the prices and the experience of using the service.
“From the start Triips was amazing,” they wrote. “It is user friendly and the prices are amazing compared to other sites I tried. Booking vacation for a large family is a hassle alone but Triips made booking the flights a breeze. Thank you so much Triips! We will be booking using Triips next time for sure!”
A 1-star reviewer, however, didn't think the subscription offered anything they couldn't find themselves.
“Biggest waste of money,” they wrote. “You can simply find deals by using Google flights or Sky Scanner yourself—they aren't doing anything to save you time or money. You can't even search for the places you actually want to go—they just give you random deals based on your departure city, which again, you can easily do on your own.”
Triips currently has a 4.6 score on Trustpilot with more than 597 reviews. However, some Reddit users have questioned whether the overwhelmingly positive reviews are genuine.
“It sounds tempting, but I've seen mixed feedback online,” one wrote. “Some people say the reviews on Trustpilot seem fake, others on Reddit even mention they might be using fake screenshots to show cheap prices.”
A commenter claimed that Triips isn't worth it, writing, “I signed up 6 months ago… I have yet to see a fare anywhere near what they promote in their ads. It's a scam…”
American Airlines, Triips.com, and @travelforless did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
