Getting curbside groceries delivered to one's vehicle is an alternative that many people are picking up in lieu of a traditional run through the store. But for one person, a curbside trip to Sam's Club resulted in disastrous consequences—and a damaged trunk.

Charlie (@charliethe1_421) posted a video that received more than 9,000 views. In it, the content creator accused an employee at their local Sam's Club location of slamming products into their trunk so hard that a hinge broke.

What happened with this Sam's Club pickup order?

At the beginning of the video, Charlie had a simple message: “If you're thinking about getting a Costco or a Sam's membership, definitely get a Costco membership 'cause Sam's sucks.”

The content creator told their audience that she ordered curbside delivery. She then drove up, like normal, and waited for an employee to put their groceries in the vehicle. But during the delivery, a Sam's Club employee allegedly “slammed” some water into the trunk.

Charlie emphasized that because there was stuff in the back of their car, she was going to help the employee put some cases of water in the backseat. According to them, the employee directly ignored the request.

”So look, I'm gonna try to open it,” she said. “We had three cases of water. I told him everything wasn't gonna fit, to not put it all back here, that we were just gonna put two in here, and then I was grabbing them too and I was helping him.”

Then she pointed to a hinge at the top of the trunk.

“ He bent this up here. This used to not look like that.  He broke this, so my dad had to mess with it earlier and everything,” the content creator said.

Charlie Tries To Speak to a Manager

Immediately afterward, Charlie tried to get in touch with a manager. The content creator called the store. But she said she didn't receive much help.

“ I call them too, and I'm like, ‘Hey, I need to speak to a manager,'” Charlie said. “One of the girls picks up the phone, hangs up on me, and then I call three more times.  She hangs up on me three times. I go to the auto department, get someone on the phone, and I tell 'em my situation.”

Charlie said she reported the situation to the auto department, who said she should get in touch with someone in management. Unfortunately, Charlie wasn't able to get in touch with anyone.

“So now I need to go tomorrow to get my car fixed,” the content creator said. “So screw Sam's Club. Anyone listening, get Costco. Like, I'm so upset right now it's unreal because this is my car, OK? I don't think that's gonna be cheap. I don't know how you even fix any of that. Like, this is unacceptable.”

‘Go Talk to the Manager There'

In the comments section, viewers told Charlie that she needed to go inside and report the situation, not call.

“Girl, GO INSIDE. They can't hang up on you if you are inside. If they try to kick you out, call the police because this employee damaged your vehicle. You may be able to file an insurance claim if you have it,” one commenter said.

In an update, Charlie shared that she did speak to Sam's Club. The content creator added that the employee did $618 worth of damage, and Sam's Club was paying for it.

“He bent my springs, and he broke both parts of my latch,” Charlie said.

Should Customers Worry About Car Damage?

Toward the end of Charlie's update, the content creator said that anyone getting curbside groceries should “be careful.” Generally, there's reason to be cautious when allowing another person to handle one's car.

When an employee damages a customer's vehicle, the store often assumes responsibility for the damage. Usually, a customer has to file a claim through their insurance to get the damage covered, which bears its own risks. Insurance carriers can increase premium rates in certain states.

Whitley Law Firm explains, “Insurance companies raise rates after a claim based on their assessment of risk. Even if you are not at fault … your involvement might signal to the insurer that you're more likely to file another claim in the future.”

For that reason, it's best practice to help curb drivers with the groceries and clearly direct them where to place items. If an incident, such as what Charlie said happened, does occur, it's best to immediately escalate the situation to upper management in person.
