In the era of nonstop “shrinkflation,” where portions are getting smaller and prices are getting steeper, it can be grim to dine out for a meal. What used to be a straightforward trip to a favorite chain has become an exercise in financial and culinary chaos.
Enter Anthony Kaminski, a fitness influencer and streamer who's going viral for encountering this very phenomenon. And it all started with P.F. Chang's.
‘Don't go overboard or anything, man'
In a video first posted on Feb. 28 that has since accumulated over 110,000 views, Kaminski (@bigant116 on TikTok) sarcastically discussed his P.F. Chang's order. The clip featured the tongue-in-cheek text “PF Chang's portions are amazing” overlaid onto the video.
“Yo, PF Chang's, you guys really outdid yourself with the order I got through Uber Eats while I'm at this hotel,” Kaminski said in his video, his voice laced with irony. “I'm out of town for work, and I figure, you know what? Let's get one of my favorite restaurants.”
Kaminski flipped the camera to reveal his order. The (it must be said: tiny) to-go box fit in his palm, and it was filled only halfway with food. Kaminski mocked the visible lack of food in his order.
“You guys really stacked up this bowl,” he joked. “I mean, don't… Don't go overboard or anything, man. Like, that's a huge bowl.”
Kaminski put down the box and placed his hand over it, showing that his hand was bigger than the entire box. He sarcastically repeated, “That's a huge bowl.”
Kaminski, who wondered in his caption if he'd received “the kids bowl,” finished his video by emphasizing that this is an outrageous food portion considering how much he paid for a “meal.”
“I ordered a full-size meal,” he said. “This was like 25 bucks.”
Commenters slam P.F. Chang's
Kaminski's frustration was shared by viewers in his comment section. Multiple people expressed their outrage at P.F. Chang's prices vs. their portions—and lauded Panda Express as a superior Asian food dining option.
“Panda Express alllll day,” wrote one commenter, adding a picture of a large to-go box full of food. “This is the KIDS MEAL.”
“Panda Express would never,” another viewer agreed.
“Imagine ordering for your family and getting 4 of those for $100,” another wrote, referencing Kaminski's tiny, half-empty box. “I'd lose my shit.”
“We haven't been back for this reason,” one person commented. “The last time we went the portions were so small not worth it.”
The official P.F. Chang's TikTok account left an apology on Kaminski's video and asked to connect with him over the debacle.
“We're so sorry to see this,” the P.F. Chang's account wrote. “Could you DM us your phone number/email, the location you ordered and the date so our team can reach out? Thank you!”
Kaminski responded to the comment and indicated he'd direct message them.
Are P.F. Chang's Prices Proportionate to Its Portion Sizes?
Multiple commenters actually suggested Kaminski seek out alternative restaurants or fast food joints. So that begged the question: Are P.F. Chang's' prices actually worth it?
It seems the jury's still out. While online forums are home to a plethora of posts with people complaining about drink portion sizes, “bland, overpriced food,” and a menu masquerading as “expensive Panda Express,” P.F. Chang's is still a widely patronized restaurant chain. According to YouGov, it is the 60th most popular dining brand in America (out of 272 listed brands). As one Redditor put it, “PF Changs is delicious and dependable, can handle large groups, and has something for everybody.”
P.F. Chang's has notably been an “upscale casual” dining experience for most of its lifespan, with steeper prices reflecting that, even though it has rebranded into a more “populist” chain in recent years.
