Woman Makes Cilantro Avocado Salsa In Blender. Then She Realizes Her Engagement Ring Is Missing—And The Worst Has Happened

A woman accidentally made a grievous mistake while making salsa that cost her a ring and some salsa.

A content creator who goes by the name Princess online (@princessvibes.xoxo) posted a video that received more than 1 million views. In it, she filmed herself holding a small, metal object, which she said was the remains of her engagement ring.

The TikToker said that while making cilantro avocado salsa, her ring fell into a blender. The content creator didn't realize the ring was missing, and instead made a fatal error. She went ahead and blended up the ingredients. Then she had to fish out the diamond—which was intact—alongside the warped band.

Did the diamond survive?

In the comments section, viewers said she had at least one assurance from the incident: The diamond inside her engagement ring was real. They cited the metal twisting, warping, and breaking. By contrast, the content creator's diamond stayed whole and relatively unscathed.

Abazias, a jewelry blog, explains that “diamonds have hardness but low toughness, meaning they resist scratches but can shatter under impact.”

The blog even used a blender as an example to illustrate that point. Abazias states that a blender is “unlikely to cause significant damage to a diamond due to the lack of focused impact and the diamond's resistance to abrasion.” Abazias does note, however, that diamonds can become dull when “blended.”

In contrast, metals such as plated silver or stainless steel might bend or twist in a blender, severely damaging the ring despite the diamond being safe. Abazias says, “The outcome likely involves severe damage to the ring's setting or band, despite the diamond itself potentially remaining intact.”

Is it safe to wear rings in the kitchen?

Despite the situation not ending as horrifically as it could have, with at least one part of her ring, viewers said she made a mistake wearing her ring in the kitchen.

A viewer said, “Why y'all wearing your ring in the kitchen? I don't wear mine at home at all, my fiancé knows we're engaged so there's no reason to keep it on in the privacy of my home.”

Another commenter added, “People who wear their rings AT HOME, LEAVE THEM IN THE BATHROOM, AND DO RISKY ACTIVITIES WITH THEM, I DON'T UNDERSTAND.”

In addition, prongs, grooves, and other small niches in a ring can trap bacteria, which can then get inside food. For that reason, the Food and Drug Administration specifically advises individuals not to cook while wearing anything other than plain rings when working in the kitchen.

A ring could end up in the sink drain, in a blender, in the oven or in some other place where it could get irreparably damaged, just like what happened in Princess' situation. In this circumstance, it's unlikely Princess will be able to repair her ring considering the damage. She could, however, use the diamond for a new band.

Could the ring be saved?

In a response to Subplot News, Princess said, “Unfortunately, the ring is pretty much a total loss. It was badly damaged in the blender and broken into multiple pieces. I went through everything afterward hoping there would be enough left to repair or reset, but unfortunately there wasn't. I was honestly shocked that a blender could do that much damage to an engagement ring.”

She added that since the ring was destroyed by her blender, she's been more careful in the kitchen.

“I don't think I'll ever put my hand near a blender with my engagement ring on again. It's definitely coming off before I cook from now on,” she said.

And on the bright side, Princess said her fiancé has been “incredibly sweet about the whole situation.” She said they're replacing the ring.
