American anthem booed during several sports events in Canada

Toronto Raptors fans booed the American national anthem during an NBA game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday at Scotiabank Arena.

This new trend among Canadian sports fans booing the American national anthem seems to be a reaction to President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 25% tariff on imported goods from Canada.

As soon as the first notes of The Star-Spangled Banner were sung by Kyra Daniel, a young 15-year-old artist, boos erupted in the arena.

In contrast, her performance of O Canada was met with enthusiastic cheers from the audience.

Similar scenes were observed during NHL games in Toronto, Ottawa, Calgary, and Vancouver over the weekend.

Last Saturday, during a game between the Ottawa Senators and the Minnesota Wild, the American anthem was already met with boos from the Canadian crowd.

The tariffs on imports from Mexico, Canada, and China were initially set to take effect on Tuesday.

This measure targeting the three main trading partners of the United States has caused a shockwave in the North American economy.

Mr. Trudeau announced on Saturday evening that if the United States imposed these tariffs, Canada would respond by implementing a 25% tax on 155 billion Canadian dollars of American products.

After speaking Monday night with American President Donald Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau confirmed that American tariffs will be suspended for at least thirty days.
