“Top Gun: Maverick” Tom Cruise’s biggest hit

The film Top Gun: Maverick has become in the last few hours the biggest commercial success of the long and successful career of Tom Cruise.

Top Gun: Maverick was already off to a strong start when it was launched and was considered the best launch of the American actor’s career. Now we learn that the high-flying film has broken the billion-dollar barrier at the box office.

In addition to becoming the most popular film of all time for the 59-year-old actor, the sequel to Top Gun became the first film of 2022 to reach this rare milestone after only 31 days in theaters.

This billion mark is no small feat. Indeed, Top Gun: Maverick is only the second film after Spider-Man: No Way Home ($1.89 billion) to have reached the billion dollar mark since the arrival of the coronavirus in our lives.

Before Top Gun: Maverick became Tom Cruise‘s biggest hit, his film Mission: Impossible – Fallout held the top spot in his filmography for having earned $257 million worldwide.

Top Gun: Maverick was originally slated for a June 2020 release, but Paramount has decided to delay its release until more fans can come see it in theaters.
