Zelensky says he is ready to step down, but under conditions

In response to accusations from Donald Trump, who claims that Zelensky is seeking to prolong the conflict in order to continue receiving funds, President Volodymyr Zelensky, concerned for the well-being of his country, stated in an interview that he was prepared to resign from office if it could ensure lasting peace in Ukraine.

Zelensky continued by stating that he would willingly give up his presidency if it allowed Ukraine to join NATO, which he considers essential for the security and protection of his country.

Following the peace negotiations initiated by Trump with Russia, without the participation of Ukraine and Europe, Zelensky stated that he would reject any proposal that would weaken his country or exploit its resources to the detriment of future generations of Ukrainians.

Recently, Donald Trump demanded that Ukraine cede a significant share of its mineral wealth in exchange for American support, a proposal that is clearly unfavorable for Kyiv compared to the aid provided by the United States since the beginning of the conflict.

This offer appears to be nothing more than an attempt to exploit Ukraine as it goes through a deep crisis after three years of war since the Russian invasion.

Zelensky firmly rejected this proposal, arguing that it would impose a burden on several generations of Ukrainians. However, he offered the United States a share of the mining resources that he considers fair under the circumstances.

However, Zelensky emphasizes the necessity of a peace agreement that guarantees the independence and economic future of Ukraine, prioritizing strong security guarantees rather than unjust concessions.

Tensions between Zelensky and the United States have intensified, with Trump echoing Kremlin rhetoric by falsely accusing Ukraine of being responsible for the conflict and asserting that Zelensky is solely seeking to prolong the war in order to continue receiving international aid, a statement that has created a chill in Kyiv and among its European allies.

Zelensky emphasizes that peace can only be achieved with the unity of European and American allies. 

He hopes that U.S. military aid will remain intact despite the ongoing negotiations. According to him, any decision must above all guarantee the sovereignty and freedom of Ukraine.

This week, as a summit marks the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Europe and Canada have reaffirmed their unwavering support for Kyiv. The European Union and several countries have announced new significant financial commitments, accompanied by material military aid to strengthen Ukraine’s defense, while emphasizing the necessity of a peace process.
