Dr Fauci hospitalized for West Nile virus

Dr. Anthony Fauci, 83 and known for his role in managing COVID-19 under the Trump and Biden administrations, began experiencing symptoms such as fever, chills and extreme fatigue, leading to his hospitalization for several days.

He is said to have contracted the West Nile virus.

The immunologist, convalescing at home, is said to have had a major scare after being seriously ill and hospitalized for almost a week.

West Nile virus is transmitted mainly by the bite of infected mosquitoes.

The majority of people exposed to the virus show no symptoms, but around 20% develop signs such as fever, headache, muscle pain, nausea, diarrhea or rash.

In around 1 in 150 cases, the infection can progress to a severe form requiring hospitalization, with potentially serious consequences such as paralysis or even death.

There is no drug or vaccine to prevent West Nile virus infection. The main preventive measure is to avoid mosquito bites by using repellents.

But, also, propose measures to control and reduce the mosquito population by eliminating stagnant water near inhabited areas, where mosquitoes breed.

While Dr. Fauci is happily recovering from the infection, experts continue to recommend avoiding mosquito bites.
